On Saturday-29-October the Bogota Recreation Commission hosted a Fall Festival in Olsen Park. This started with a costume parade from Steen School down W. Main St to Olsen Park. At the park there was a Pumpkin patch set up for the Children to pick there own Pumpkin. Then they could decorate it to take home. A sack race course and Bounce house were also available to be played with. Later in the Afternoon a hayride was able go give attendees a ride around Olsen Park. Some local groups were set-up to give information about other local groups. A DJ provided music for dancing. Balloon animals, face paint, cotton candy, along with Hamburgers and Hot Dogs were available for anyone would wanted them. This was helped by mild weather which allowed everyone to enjoy a Fall Afternoon.

On Friday 28-October the Trinity Lutheran Church in Bogota held their first Oktoberfest. This was in celebration of German ancestry of the Lutheran Church. Local families brought home made food from recipes handed down through the generation. There was a variety of Sausages, & breads, German potato salad, and schnitzels to be tried and shared. Along with deserts to be consumed over coffee and conversation. Pastor Rachel Zarnke hopes to continue this as an annual celebration to bring the Lutheran German community together for an evening. As well as having the Residents of Bogota to come and join an their neighbors for some food and well being.

Bogota Cross Country

On Saturday- 29- October the Bogota Cross Country Squad competed in the Bergen County Meet of Champions at Darlington Park. This was a meet that allows the top teams from all five groups to run against each other. The Bogtoa Lady Bucs Finished 13th out the thirteen teams racing. Alanah O'Brien and Angeli Jaipersaud were the top Bogota finishers at 84 and 85 positions respectfully.
In the Men's race Bogota finished fifth out of the 14 team field. James Draney place fifth overall, with Danny Daurio coming in 12th. Bogota's fifth place is the highest finish by a squad from Bogota in the 44 year history of this meet. They set a Group 1 meet record with a aveegae time of 16:29.40. Mr. Draney set a Bogota record for this meet with a time of 15:39 and Mr. Daurio time of 15:51 is now the second fastest time by a Bogota runner.
The next compete in the State Section Championship meet on Saturday 5-November at Holmdel Park in Holmdel, NJ

Haunted Library

On Saturday 29-October the Bogota Public Library held their annual Haunted Library in the second floor Senior Center. The Morning started with a short movie to set the tone for the rest of the day. Costumed Students were then able to make Halloween crafts, and play a few games. Finally the braver Students were allowed to take turns exploring the Tunnel of Terror.. if they dared. Those who "survived" their trip went back for more fun.

October to December
Monday -3- October will be the start of Leaf Season. Home Owners are allowed to place raked, leaves and grass cutting in the street , along the curb, in front of their residents. It is ask that the piles be placed in such a way as not to interfere with traffic, and away from storm sewers and drain to prevent flooding , or other water build-up. Leaf Season is schedule to end on Monday -19- December after that date all yard waste must be placed in brown leaf bags for pick-up.

The Bogota Marching Buccaneer Band will participate in the 70th North Jersey Band Festival at Montclair State University. The events starts at 4:30p with Bogota scheduled to be the fourth band to perform. ( Rain date will be Sunday -6-November also at 4:30p). Bogota has been the only High School band to attend all 70 festivals. Tickets are $10.00 in advance, and $15.00 at the gate. parking cost $6.00 . Tickets may be purchased from any band member. The weekly " Meet the Mayor" event will take place in the office of Mayor Chris Keleman This is open to any Bogota resident who would to ask the Mayor a question about Bogota, or to discuss any matter to help improve the quality of life in the Borough. Anyone who wishes just to have an informal conversation with the Mayor is also welcome to attend. Meetings will be held on a first come basis. This will run from 5:00p to 7:00p in the Mayor's office.
