Paint Blue

19-July-2016
Earlier this month  the Village of Ridgefield Park, NJ started a " Paint the Village Blue" campaign. This is to show  respect  for and support the Women and Men of the Law enforcement community. They have suggested that anyone from private residents  or local business display the colour blue visible to passers by. This can be in the form  of ribbons, paint, blue porch lights, or any other type item.
The Borough of Bogota, and the Village of Ridgefield Park ( South Bogota) share more than just a border, and the noise from Interstate -80.   In past years their was an annual Bogota Bucs  versus Ridgefield Park Scarlets  Varsity Football Game. Both Police Departments ride together in the Police Unity  Tour. This is a annual bike tour from New Jersey to the National Law  Enforcement  Officer's Memorial and Museum in Washington DC. Fundraisers  for this event are held in both Bogota, and Ridgefield Park.  A more personal connect is the retirement of Fire Alarm Box #45 located at West Shore Ave & Oakwood Ave in Bogota. This is in honour of Ridgefield park Fire Fighter Stephen Dembski who lost his life while assisting the Bogota Fire Dept during a call on Oakwood Ave in 2007. Even before that both the Fire and Police dept are a mainstay at each other Summer Parades. Ridgefield Park sends a full complement of Police and Fire personal to take part in the Bogota Memorial Day Parade. And the Bogota returns the favor in the Ridgefield Park Fourth of July Parade.
Now here is a new opportunity to the two communities to work together. This  would be a  way to showing the strengths of two New Jersey towns for a common good.  The  citizens from the Borough of Bogota (North Ridgefield Park) can join with Ridgefield Park to help demonstrate that the Women  and Men walking a thin blue on how there service is appreciated. Then the idea of respecting one another can grow from this part of Bergen County to well beyond its borders.
