On Thursday 9-June the Bogota High School held their Academic Awards for the School year of 2015-16. The program started with Board of Education Superintendent Dr. Letizia Pantoliano introducing former executive of the Bergen County Association of School Administrators Dr. Aaron Graham. The scholarship in his name is given out to one Senior in Bergen County to continue their education in the field of Science. This years winner was Bogota Senior Michael Heck. This was the first of 19 scholarships given to Bogota Seniors which will offer financial assistance as they continue with their Post-secondary Education. Some of the scholarships are rewarded basis on their academic performance. Other also have a criteria that takes into account of athletic achievement, while community service is taken into consideration for other awards. An additional part of the ceremony was the rewarding of the Presidential Education Awards to a number of Seniors.
The six main Departments of the High School then presented their awards to the outstanding Students for the current school year. These included all grades from seventh to Seniors in Physical Education, Science, English, Mathematics, Social Studies, and the Fine Arts.
The final Scholarship was the Henry C Luthin Scholarship prenent by Principal Damian Kennedy. This is named after the Former Superintendent of the Bogota Public Schools and is awarded to the Senior who not only has meet high academic standard, but has also participated and excelled at extracurricular activities and performance of community service. This years winner is Class of 2016 Valedictorian Katherine Farfara . Miss Farfara not only has achieve a high level of academic success. She has also been an active participate in many school functions including including the National Honor Society, six years in Band & Orchestra, become co-Drum major this year and appearing in the 12 productions of the Drama Club and being induced to the International Thespian Society. Some of her Community service includes being and work with Girl Scout Programs. Volunteering at the Bogota Public Library, and various church groups. After accepting her award she was given a standing ovation from the audience, many being her classmates and fellow Seniors.
