On Monday -18-April the Bogota, Ridgefield Park, Montvale team of the Police Unity Tour held a fundraising dinner and raffle at the 101 Pub in Bogota. This was to raise money for the 2016 Police Unity Tour in May of 2016. Processes from the ride will go to the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial and Museum, in Washington DC. The primary purpose of the Police Unity Tour is to raise awareness of Law Enforcement Officers who have died in the line of duty. With a secondary purpose is to raise funds for the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial and Museum. The tour started in 1997 in Florham Park with 18 riders in order to bring awareness of Police Officers who have been lost in the line of duty to the public. This first ride raised about $18,000 for the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial.
Their next ride will start on Thursday 9-May in East Hanover, NJ and is scheduled to be in Washington DC on Sunday 12- May.
This year the Bogota, Ridgefield Park, Montvale team will be riding in honour of New York City Detective Joseph Lemm. Officer Lemm was also a member of the of the Air National Guard as a Staff Sergeant as stationed in Afghanistan last year. While on duty there Officer Lemm was killed, along with five other U.S. soldiers on 21-Dec- 2015. Officer Lemm was a 15 year veteran of the New York Police Dept. and on his third tour overseas at the time of his death.
Members of the the Bogota, Ridgefield Park, Montvale Chapter wore shirts remembering Officer Lemm durning the event.
