On Wednesday 16- March Bogota Beautiful had its monthly board meeting. Some of the items mentioned was that Bogota Beautiful was awarded a grant from the New Jersey Collaborating Center for Nursing, which for now will go into their general funds, and that they have been accepted by Pro Bono Partnership as a client to assist them in legal matters. On agenda items, was the release of the schedule for their second Yoga in the Park series. This will take place in Olsen Park, near the Noto Bandshell. It will meet every Saturday in May and June starting on Saturday 7-May. Classes will run from 9:00a to 10:00a and are free of charge. These classes are open to the public and for all ages and abilities will be welcomed. Anyone attending is asked to register with Bogota Beautiful for any of the dates offered. Also it is recommended that every wear comfortable free moving clothing, water, towel and a yoga mat. Bogota Beautiful will have yoga mats available for purchase.
Another item on the agenda was the Bogota Community Garden. Councilwoman Daniele Fede attended this meeting to tell of the process of it being approved by the Bogota Borough Council. Councilwoman Fede reiterated her support for Bogota Beautiful in general and the Community Garden specifically. She also voiced the Council's concerned over the running of the garden. Saying it should not be another Bogota Beautiful project, but a stand alone organization with its on board members. She told that the Bogota Government wants to know who, and how the garden will be run, and financed. Some in local Government do not want to be left to clean, or remove a project at taxpayers expense. They talked about the planters on W. Main St being left alone over the Winter. Chairperson Amrau Bustamante addressed some of the Council concerned. As for the Community Garden there are people committed to become board members for the garden. They will have a business plan, by laws, fees, and funding ready when a resolution creating the Bogota Community Garden is passed by the Council. He also told the Councilwoman that new trees and soil for the planters will be available, at no charge, to be replanted in the the spring. He also said that Bogota Beautiful needs to be more active to obtain volunteer help to maintain the planters. Bogota Beautiful was told that the shop owners that agreed to have a planter in front of their business had an obligation to also help maintain the planters, as well as the Borough providing more trash receptacles on W. Main near the planters.
Councilwoman Fede also express a bit of frustration at the Council itself for removing the Garden resolution from the agenda twice. One only hours before the meeting and another time a few days before. But both Councilwoman Fede and Mr. Bustamante agreed that this project is too important to rush, and need for maintaining a Community Garden that is safe and financially secure is paramount.
