This is the first of a three part series that will highlight some of the stories covered by Bogtoa Blog NJ for the year 2015. This post will cover the Months from January to April.
3-Jan.-2015
The Bogota Borough Council held their annual Sine Die to reorganize the Borough Government for the year 2015. The two member of Council voted into office in the November 2014 election were sworn in. Councilwoman Lisa Kohles was sworn in by NJ State Senator Loretta Weinberg. Thomas Napolitano who was sworn in by Bergen Freeholder Maura DeNicola. Councilman Napolitano won the three year term on Council in his first time running for that office.
Councilman Jorge Nunez was re elected as Council President.
6-Jan.-2015
The Bogota Board of Education held their Re-organization meeting for the year 2015. At this meeting 4 new members were sworn in as Trustees to the Board. Three James Moore, Patrick McHale & Consuelo Carpenter were sworn into three year terms. The fourth Kathryn VanBuren was voted in to fill in a 2 year Unexpired Term.
Athletic Director Brad DiRupo was asked to speak to the Board. Mr. DiRupo inform the Board that a number of other School Districts have approached him about merging a few sports programs together. This was later rejected by the Board of Education on the grounds that there would be no home game, for the football team played at Fiegel Field.

For the first time since in a while gasoline prices for unleaded, paid in cash, have dropped below $2.00 The Delta on River rd reduced their price to $1.99 earlier in the week.
16-Jan.-2015
The first of the major construction projects around Bogota was finished on Thursday 15- Jan with the opening of the 7-11 store at is part of the Valero gas station on Palisades at E. Main St.
3-March-2015
Bogota Beautiful and the Bogota VFW #5561 Ralph Hall Post is hosting inaugural Pancake Breakfast on Sunday 22- March This will be held at the post lower hall with the entrance at 241 West Shore Ave Bogota,NJ. Proceeds from this fundraiser will help finance Bogota Beautiful's Spring Planting for 2015.
7- March-2015
The Final event was held in the Miss Bogota 2015 Pageant. This was the Coronation of the new Queens in the three categories of the pageant. Held in the Auditorium of the Bogota High School. The Little Miss Bogota for 2015 is Talia Luciano. The crown for the Miss Teen Bogota for 2015 was presented to Emalia Samouhos. The new Miss Bogota for 2015 is now Caitlynn Alavarez.
11-March-2015
On Wednesday 11- March Councilman Jorge Nunez has announced he will not be seeking a third term for the Bogota Borough Council. He is currently a two term member of Council and is Council President for the last two years. He is the most senior member of Council having been elected in 2010.

The Bogota Recreation Commission held their annual Easter Egg hunt near the Environmental Walkway in Olsen Park. The Easter Bunny was on hand to pass out some candy to the Children and pass out prizes to those on were able to find any special eggs. Members of Bogota Borough Council along with Mayor Keleman attended to watch.
11- April-2015
In the early Afternoon of 11- April parts of E. Main St. in Bogota were closed due to the report of a suspicious package found by the workers of Purich inc located at 149 E. Main St. Workers say they originally thought the package was just another item to be open until they found it contained a number of object wrapped in bubblewrap and red tape. There was also a name of a Naval Officer who had died overseas. Members of the Bergen County Bomb Squad were called in to examine the package. It was later determined that the items were a few brick wrapped together and carried in memory of the fallen officer. The items were meant to be discarded but ended up in the Purich shop by mistake.

The Bogota VFW post #5561 host a first of its kind wrestling event in Bogota. This was stage by one of the newer promotions “ Wrestling is Magic” The matches took place in a ring set-up in the Main Hall of the Post.
15- April-2015
The Seniors from the Bogota High School class of 2015 took on the Faculty in a Basketball Game. Lead by Senior players from both Basketball teams
20-April- 2015
The improvisational comedy troupe " Howdy Stranger" performed at Bogota High School on Friday 17- April. The Hackensack based company held a workshop for members of the drama dept. in the afternoon.
24- April-2015
Bogota Airlines made their inaugural trip around the world to explore the different cultures that are represented in the Borough of Bogota. The pre fight boarding took place in the High School Gymnasium where passengers could sample a variety of flavors from around the world.
The passengers then proceeded to the Auditorium to see the types of songs and music that have come to Bogota over the years from different parts of the World.
25- April -2015
Organized by Bogota Beautiful a large group of Volunteers came to Olsen Park in Bogota to do an Earth Day cleaning of the park. Local groups including the the Bogota Rescue Squad, A number of Girl Scout Troops, members of Trinity Lutheran Church, some Lady Bucs Volleyball teammates, Student from Rutgers University along with the Mayor and some members of Council, joined together with Borough resident to give Olsen Park a spring cleaning.
