On Wednesday 19- August the American Cancer Society held their Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Ridgefield Park Kickoff breakfast at the Glenpointe Marriott. This was an opportunity for anyone who would like to raise money for the American Cancer Society to help fund a cure for breast cancer. Attendees learn how to form teams, and to obtain pledges in order to raise money at the Making Strides Against breast Cancer walk which will be held on Sunday 18- October in the Ridgefield Park section of Overpeck Park. This is a 5K walk with the process going to the American Cancer Society for research, support and to advocate for everyone ( Women & Men) who are diagnosed with any form of breast cancer. Money raised at these, and other event, have gone into research that have identified a protein linked to breast cancer. Research has also have found medication that prevents the recurrence of one type of breast cancer.
Other donations have helped fund overnight lodging for Patients, and their Caregivers when treatment facilities were not available locally. Along with providing transportation to Patients in order to travel back and forth for treatment. Additional uses for donation are use for Advocacy in order to obtain additional funding for cancer research & prevention. A number of the attendees signed up to become team leaders in order to build groups to help raise money and participate in the October walk. Some have been team leaders in the past while other are making this commitment for the first time. Many team leaders are cancer survivors while other have had Family or Friends affected by cancer.
It was also mentioned that even if someone who wanted to walk, who were not present to sign up at this Breakfast, could still do so by going to The American Cancer Society event web site at:

This website is also available for any current groups who wish to join the walk, and even an individual who wishes to walk to raise money for the fight against breast cancer.
