On Friday 12- Dec a fire in an abandon house on Central Ave. & James St. was contained by the Companies of the Bogota Volunteer Fire Dept. Companies from Ridgefield Park, and Hackensack respond to assist in extinguishing the fire. Due to the condition of the building the first action taken was to fight the fire from the exterior, mainly the back & west side of the structure. One concern was the property was next to the Central Ave Station of Bogota Hose Co. #2. A wind from the west assisted in keeping the fire & smoke away from Fire House. After the initial fire was put down Firefighters then were able to gain access to the interior to find and extinguish any left over pockets of fire. Because of the abandon nature of the structure Firefighter had to sort though a number of pile of debris, as well as nesting material made by local wildlife. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
The Bogota Fire Dept. along with the Rescue and First aid Squads are all volunteer organizations. For more information about volunteering please go to bogotafire.org/ or call; 201-342-1736 ext. 2007.
