On Sunday 8- June the ARC of Bergen & Passaic Counties held their 17th annual walk-a-thon in Olsen Park Bogota, NJ. It attracted walkers from around Northern New Jersey to help raise money for ARC. This allows ARC to help those who have developmental disabilities and their families. The walk took place over a 1.5 mile loop around both sections of Olsen Park. It had a starting point behind the Band shell. Past the Veteran's Memorial Garden, over the Environmental Walkway, and around the Softball field. It then crossed over Main Street , with help of the Bogota Auxiliary Police, walking around the perimeter of the Little league fields and back over Main St. by the Tennis & Basketball courts to then go back to the start line. All team finished one lap while other kept going for at least two more laps, while raising more money with each loop around the course. Before the laps started Walkers were welcomed by County Executive Kathleen Donovan, and Freeholder Joan Voss. There was also a performance of the Sparks Cheerleading team.
For the second year Amanda Hoeland, of Amanda's Miracle Walkers served as Grand Marshal, and cut the ribbon to start the walk. They were followed by members of the Bogota High School Marching Band, and some of the High School Twirlers.
At the end of the walk the participants were treated to refreshments provide by the Masons from the 2nd,3rd,& 4th Districts, and music by Willie Wilson and the Willies. There was also a Member of the Mounted Unit on Horse back for the walkers to look at along with the Unit from The Bogota Volunteer Fire Dept. Engine Co. #3 for the the participants to have a closer look at.
