The Bogota Borough Council made a small move forward on their selection of the professional service providers for the upcoming year. After several heated discussion on how the selection should processed. One of the issues was whether or not prospective appointees should go through a " RICE Notice". This would have been to allow those current & future employees to have a private meeting with the members of council about the positions they are applying for. This would have set the appoints back another two weeks in order for the candidates by interviewed by the Borough Council. Council President Jorge Nunez disagreed that this process was needed. He stated that it had not been done in the past, and even at the same meeting to hire a plumbing service for the Borough.
Another issue was that some members of Council met with each other in private to discuss who should be nominated for these appointments. It would would a violation of the New Jersey Open Meeting law if four or more elected office met in private, but it was unclear that a one on one meeting would be against the policies.
Mayor Tito Jackson then called for a vote on his recommendation. The first one to be approved by the council, in a 4-2 vote, was selecting the firm of Environetics of Englewood Cliffs, NJ to be the new Architect for the Borough. Next was a vote for Borough Attorney, the Council voted 4-2 to hire Mr. Douglas Bern of the firm Rubenstein, Meyerson, Fox, Manicinelli, & Conte from Montvale , NJ. After that vote the current Attorney Mr. Joseph Monaghan excused himself from Council Chambers upon hearing that he has been replaced. For Auditor the Council voted for Ferraioli, Wielkotz, Cerullo, & Cuva from Pompton Lakes, NJ. Along with McManimon, Scotland & Baumann from Roseland, NJ to provide Bond Service counseling to the Borough. These were also passed by 4-2- votes. All of these were the second choice to be voted on after the Council voted 4-2 to reject the Mayors nominees.
After these votes the public in attendance voiced their concern that, with no Attorney to advise the Council, that no further appointment be made. Mr. Bern who was voted to be the Borough Attorney was not present at the meeting to assume his new position. A postponement was officially brought before the Council by Councilman John Mitchell to resume at another time, when the Borough Attorney would be present to advise on legal matters. It was voted that the rest of the appointment be postponed until the next meeting which is now schedule to be on Tuesday 4- February at 7:30p in Council Chambers. Mayor Jackson invited the public to return to that meeting. The 4-Feb. will also serve as the regular Council Meeting and work session after the appointment have been voted on.
The meeting, again, will be on Tuesday 4- February at 7:30p. This meeting is open to the public and will take place in the Borough Hall Council Chambers located at 375 Larch Ave. in Bogota, NJ

Board of Education
29- Jan-2014
On Tuesday 28- Jan the Bogota Board of Education held their meeting that was postponed from 21-Jan. The Board first heard about their report on finances for the fiscal year that ended on 30- June-2013. It confirmed that the Board of Education had a surplus in it's budget and it was able to move forward on the replacement of the Board of Education Offices along with the field house at Feigel Field.
Another major resolution that passed was that Board will meet once a month for the remainder of the current school year. This was passed by a 4-3 vote. Some of the objections to once a month meeting is the added burden of overseeing two major construction projects during that time period. A feeling that with only one meeting a month the meeting will become longer. It was also felt that the process of added a meeting when needed is longer than canceling that is not needed. Those who voted in favor of the new format feel that with only one meeting a month it will be easier to attract more parents to attend the meetings. In approving the new format the Board Members asked that all agenda items be given to the Board Members a full week in advance of the meeting.
The next board meeting will be Tuesday 25- February starting at 7:30p in the High School Cafeteria
At this next meeting the Board will vote on a replacement to fill the Seat that has been vacant because of the election of John Mitchell to Borough Council. Any one interested in applying for the open seat must be over 18 years of age, be a current resident of Bogota for at least on year, and be able to pass a background check. There will be special meeting on Tuesday 25- February at 6:30p before the regular Board Meeting to be interviewed by the Board Members.
For more information about this please contact the Bogota Board of Education Secretary Norma Tursi at : NTursi@BogotaBOE.com

Air notice
28-Jan.-2014
A notice has been posted by the Bogota Office of Emergency Management about flyovers in preparation for the upcoming Super Bowl game on Sun. 2-Feb.
TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. – Continental U.S. North American Aerospace Defense Command Region (CONR) fighters, along with its interagency partners, will be busy well before Super Bowl Sunday preparing to protect the skies around the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
Just like Super Bowl teams, CONR and its interagency partners practice before the game.
Individuals in and around the East Rutherford area can expect flights to begin Jan. 29 around 4:30 a.m. EST and continue for approximately one hour.
Exercise Amalgam Virgo 14-01, a NORAD air-defense exercise, will be conducted Wednesday in the greater East Rutherford area so interagency partners can practice procedures for responding to airspace violations.
The Amalgam Virgo exercise is a series of training flights in coordination with the FAA, FBI, Customs and Border Protection, Civil Air Patrol, the 601st Air and Space Operations Center, and the CONR’s Eastern Air Defense Sector. These agencies are part of America’s team for defense of the air space around the nation.
If inclement weather occurs, officials will make a decision to postpone or cancel the exercise.
“There are a lot of interagency partners involved in the air defense of this year’s Super Bowl,” said Lt. Gen. William Etter, CONR commander. “With multiple agencies involved, coordination between all air-defense partners is crucial. This exercise allows all of the interagency partners to come together before the game to hone their air defense skills and ensure communications are working properly.”
These exercises are carefully planned and closely controlled to ensure CONR’s rapid response capability. CONR has conducted exercise flights of this nature throughout the U.S. since the start of Operation Noble Eagle, the command’s ongoing response to the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
“On Super Bowl Sunday and every other day the men and women of the Continental U.S. NORAD Region are on watch making sure our skies are safe,” Etter said.
Since Sept. 11, 2001, CONR fighters have responded to more than 5,000 possible air threats in the United States and have flown more than 62,500 sorties with the support of Airborne Warning and Control System and air-to-air-refueling aircraft for Operation Noble Eagle.
