Last Sunday the ARC of Bergen-Passaic Counties held their 2012 " Step-up for ARC' Walk- A- Thon at Olsen Park in Bogota.
this is one of their fund raisers to help individuals, and their families, who are suffering from developmental disorders. The walk was three laps in, and around, Olsen Park lead by Grand Marshal Ryan along with the Bogota High School Band. Before the walk the crowd was treated to a performance by the Sparks cheerleaders, some of whom have been diagnosed with forms of Autism. Then Tim Lynch, of Maxablity Sports in Hackensack, had a quick warm-up program for the walkers. Brothers Matthew & John-Paul sung the National Anthem, before the Grand Marshal cut the ribbon to start the walk. A bright mild day greeted the walkers as the went along the shores of the Hackensack River, over the Environmental Walkway, and around Scully Field. The next part crossed W. Main street in order to lap the other playing field on the East side of the park.
After the tour of Olsen Park the walkers were treated to refreshments provided by the Mason. There was also live music played by ' Willie Wilson and the Willies". Arts,& Crafts, and face painting for the children as well as a Fire Truck from Bogota Hose Co. #1. A new feature this year was a "retired" hot air balloon semi-inflated that was available to be walked into. This was one of "A Beautiful Balloon" envelopes that is no longer air worthy so it can now be used as a colourful opportunity for kids, and adults to see the inside of a balloon.
