The tree lighting for the 2011 holiday season will happen on Friday 9-December at 7:00p. It will be in front of Borough Hall, and is being presented by the Bogota Recreation Commission, and the Girl Scouts of Bogota. Everyone is welcome to attend, and a donation of canned for is requested. In addition any new unused toys that are given will go to "Toys for Tots" to be donated to less fortunate children.
There may be a performance by the 5th & 6th grade choir the "Vocalneeters" There will also be a drawing for gift certificate from Toys R Us. And a visit from Santa.
There will be cookies and hot chocolate served in the Hose # 1 Fire House after the lighting.

Steen School

Today the Lillian M. Steen school in Bogota NJ received their grand prize from the New York Jets. It is for the Eat Right Move More program for the 2011-12 school year. This honour is given to Steen school for their continuing effort to provide a healthy ,and balanced food program. As well as the importance giving the students a full range of physical actives during the school day. On hand to honour the school were the New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Mr. Douglas Fisher, The Bergen County Executive Ms. Kathleen Donovan, Assemblywoman Ms. Valerie Huttle. and from Senator Weinberg's Office Mr. Dylan Hawkins. Also Bogota Mayor Patrick Mchale attended to tell the Students, and Facility how proud the town is of the work being done at the school. Finally from the New York Jets football team Mr. D'Brickashaw Ferguson the Spokesman for the Eat Right Move More program.
Mr. Fisher spoke about what it took for Steen school to win this award. Telling of the effort put in by the staff and facility to make sure the students are getting a healthy program of food & exercise in school. Mr. Fisher also announced the six student that will attend a Jets football game as guest of the club.Then Ms. Donovan presented Principal Ms. Anna Falco a Certificate of Commendation from Bergen County on their achievement. Ms Huttle & Mr. Hawkins also presents Ms. Falco with an Certificate from the State Legislature in honour of what the school has done. The it was Mr. Ferguson, along with Mr. Fisher, to present Principal Falco the check made out for $5,000 as winner of the grand prize. This money will go to improve, and upgrade the kitchen area with better equipment.
The Mr. Ferguson had a chance to talk with the Students themselves. He told ,how at a young age, he had to undergo open heart surgery. How this could have made his life different if he did not have a healthy diet, with exercise. He then had time to let some of the students ask him question, some were on what he does to be a football player, others on what his favorite food is. The assembly ended with the chance to will autographed items from Mr. Ferguson, if the kids (and some Teachers) could answer question about his life. Principal Falco thanked everyone in attendance, the New York Jets for their award, and her students for earning this honour, and their behavior at the assemble.

The Parents for Bogota Football will have an end of the season dinner this Sun. 4-Dec.-2011. It will be at the VFW hall in Bogota. 241 W.Shore Ave. The dinner will start at 4:00p and go until 8:00p. A suggested donation of $20.00 is payable at door. There will be slide show of highlights from the 2011 season.

Turkey Plunge

The third annual North Jersey Turkey Plunge happened today at Cupsaw lake in Ringwood, NJ. Originally for Oakland, NJ it had to be moved to Ringwood because of the damage from Hurricane Irene. Even with a chance of venue the plunge has raised at least $20,000 for Special Olympics New Jersey. There were some Bogota resident who had the courage to take a run into a late November lake. A few may have taken advantage of the 20 degree warmer than ave. temperature of 64. Council Nunez oldest Daughter Carly got her feet wet, as well as James Sepp and his kids Andrew, Julian, and Carly plunge in to help raise money.

Turkey Plunge

Members of the Bogota Police Dept. are taking part in the "Thanks-4-Giving" turkey plunge to benefit the Special Olympics. Part of the NJ Law Enforcement Torch -Run. this event will take place tomorrow Sat. 26 Nov. It will be held at 185 Cupsaw Ave, on Cupsaw lake, in Ringwood NJ. There is registration beginning at 10:00a with the "Plunge" happening at Noon. There will food,& entertainment afterwards ,along with a "Tricky Tray"

Christmas Events

Some events coming up in December. St. Joseph's school is having their breakfast with Santa on Sun. 4 Dec. There are three seating available. The first will start at 8:30a with the second at 9:30a , and the final seating is at 11:00a. Prices for all three are $9.00 for Adults , and $7.00 for Children. St. Joseph's is located at 131 E. Ft. Cheerleader Round-up

The Bogota Rec cheerleaders had their end of season round-up Saturday Night in the Gym of Bogota High School. All three squads Pee-Wee, Junior, and Senior performed in front of a full house of family and friends.
The Rec Squads were joined by the Bogota High School Varsity Cheerleaders. The High school squad also performed ,as well as helping the younger girls with their performances. Many of the High Schoolers have been working with the rec girls during the season and had the chance to see the hard work ,by all the girls, pay off. This was also a time to acknowledge the High School Girls, because of the snow on the final home game forced the ceremony to be postponed.
The Rec girls , under the direction of Adele Guerreno-Nunez showed off all they learned through out the year.
All three squads performed their "Hello" cheer ,as well as their half time show, and did a special routine form the round-up.
After all of the performances awards were handed out to all the girls involved. Then the coaches were thanked with flowers ,and hugs. This is once again suppose to be coach Patti Brown last year of coaching , but she will always be around with her girls, and be willing to help when needed.

In partnership with the American Dairy Association,and Dairy Council the school will receive a reward of $5,000 in order to upgrade the cafeteria with the purchase, and installation, of new sinks, food processors, and blenders. These will help provide a better area for cleaning & preparing fresh fruits and vegetables for the students at the school.

The Trinity Lutheran Church in Bogota held their 2011 "Turkey Drive" yesterday. At least 400lbs of frozen turkeys, and other food item, where donated to the church. Trinity is working with St. Peters Church in River Edge in a joint effort to help those in need. The two groups will then delver all the donations to the Food Bank of NJ, which will distribute the items around Northern New Jersey. For more information, and to donate, please go to njfoodbank.org.

Bogota Volleyball

The Bogota Lady Bucs have had their come to a end today with a 2-0 (25-18 ; 25- 210 loss to River Dell in the first game of the Tournament of Champions today. The Bucs end their season as a model for smaller schools in the state. Posting a second place in the Bergen County Tournament and a repeat of their Group 1 double championships the Bogota girls can be nothing but proud of their performance and spirit in representing all of the Borough in sport competitions. A young team that will be with-out one starter, Senior Elisa Brackett, next year should have a strong corp returning for next season. The continued strong play by thease players with a new team member who can elevate her her game to match the others will make the Lady Bucs a strong opponent to who ever they face in the future.
