On
Tuesday-18-June, the Bogota Board of Education held their final meeting for the
2023-24 school year. For this meeting, the Trustees voted on the resolutions in
the consent agenda first. All resolutions were passed by unanimous vote. Items
of note were:
To approve an extension of the contract for Superintendent Mr. Damian Kennedy for an additional five years.
To approve the appointment of Matthew Barone as Vice Principal of the High School.
To approve the appointment of
Mohammad Siddiqi as a Social Studies Teacher.
To approve the appointment of
Hyungsuk Maeng as a Mathematics Teacher.
To approve contracts for the
Fiegel Field improvements, subject to all necessary State approvals.
Then Superintendent
Mr. Damian Kennedy gave his reports. He
thanked Ms. Ashley Urena for being the Student representative for this
school year. Next was to say that the 91 Seniors had 110 acceptances from
Colleges, Universities and Technical Schools. With over 9.3 million dollars in Scholarships and awards.
Superintendent Kennedy said four Seniors, Ms. Anabel Jimenez, Ms.
Makayla Douglas, Mr. David Castillo, and Mr. Joshua Gesmundo earned
an associate degree from Bergen Community College while completing their Senior
year.
Superintendent Kennedy then announced the Teachers of the Year in the
Bogota School District. They are Ms. Diane Baranello in the High School. Ms.
Lauren Tomlinson for the Middle School. Ms. Melissa Duscher at Bixby School.
Ms. Maria Castillo of Steen School.
Next Superintendent Kennedy
honoured the members of the District that will retire at the end of the 2023-24
school year. They are Mr. Thomas Hughes who was the High School Social Studies
Teacher for 24 years.
Mr. Brad DiRupo who
taught Physical Education, was the Athletic Director, Head Coach of Women’s
Volleyball, and Softball, along with being a Wrestling Consultant in his 27
years at Bogota. Mr. DiRupo will continue as Head Coach for the Lady Bucs
Volleyball team in 2024-25.
Mr. Damon
Englese who has served as Principal of
the E. Roy Bixby School for 9 years. Mr.
Englese will become the Superintendent in the Fairview School District starting in the 2024-25 School year.
The Board of Trustees also honoured Ms. Sherry Solomov for
her work as part of the Steen School Parent Teachers Organization.
The
next meeting will be on Tuesday-27 August at 7:00p This will be held in the
High School Cafeteria located on the second floor of 2 Henry Luthin Pl. and
online.
